NIGHTSCAPE

Tearing through the soft velvet

of the frosty winter night,

the fleeing city streets

made a kaleidoscope of light.

You laid your head against mine

and I snuggled up to you

as we watched the man-made stars

go by, and kissed as lovers do.

Over the horizon, fireworks flowered,

falling in drops of coloured rain

till they were snatched out of sight

by the night-tunnelling train.
